DuallyWheels & Conversions

In our Irving bay, we engineer direct bolt-on and 10-lug semi-wheel dually conversions utilizing 6061-T6 forged aluminum outer wheels and high-carbon steel inners to safely manage extreme gooseneck payload capacities. We enforce strict hub-centric weight distribution and calculate precise dual-tire spacing to prevent catastrophic sidewall friction under maximum compression — maintaining critical lateral stability over heavy I-35 road debris and during sudden Dallas-Fort Worth storms.

Direct Bolt-On 8-Lug Forged

6061-T6 forged aluminum outers mated to high-carbon steel inners — retaining your OEM 8x200, 8x170, or 8x165.1 bolt pattern with exact factory hub-bore machining. No adapters required. Grade 10.9 cold-forged flanged lug nuts, physical dual spacing measurement, high-pressure metal valve stems, and Road Force match-mounting.

Wide-Tire Fitment & Spacing

22" or 24" forged wheels engineered for wider high-ply mud-terrain or all-terrain tires. CNC-machined 1045 steel hub-centric rear spacers with pressed-in Grade 8 extended studs guarantee a strict minimum 2" dual spacing gap under payload compression. Custom TPMS transfer and strict inner-to-outer wheel phase alignment included.

10-Lug Semi-Wheel Conversion

Complete heavy-duty transformation: solid CNC-machined 1045 steel hub-centric adapters mount commercial 22.5" or 24.5" 10-lug semi-truck wheels. ARP extended high-strength studs, dual forged 6061-T6 aluminum wheels on the rear axle, internal ceramic balancing beads, and commercial-grade 33mm hex lug nuts with full steering sweep verification.

Why Choose
Our Irving Bay?

Dually wheel work is structural engineering, not a bolt-on accessory install. We've been building dually conversions in the Dallas-Fort Worth area since 2016 — every build is hub-centric, every mating surface is prepped to bare metal, and every fastener is torqued to factory spec.

Strict Hub-Centric Payload Transfer

We refuse to build lug-centric dually setups. Every adapter, spacer, and direct-bolt wheel is machined with tight hub-bore tolerances to transfer the vertical shear load of a loaded fifth-wheel trailer directly onto the steel axle snout — not the threaded wheel studs. This prevents stud shear on heavily rutted DFW pavement.

Precision Inner/Outer Wheel Mating Prep

Texas 100°F+ summer heat and moisture in clay-heavy soil create severe galvanic corrosion between steel inners and aluminum outers. We mechanically strip all hub and wheel mating surfaces to bare metal using pneumatic die grinders and 3M Scotch-Brite Roloc bristle discs, then apply Permatex copper anti-seize on mating surfaces only to prevent molecular fusion and guarantee parallel clamping force.

Heavy-Duty Hunter Road Force Balancing

A standard passenger spin balancer cannot accurately index a 150-lb heavy-duty dual assembly. We run your dually wheels on our Hunter Road Force Elite, applying up to 1,250 lbs of loaded roller pressure to detect lateral stiffness variation in commercial 10-ply, 14-ply, or 16-ply tire carcasses — completely neutralizing harmonic vibrations at highway towing speeds.

Multi-Stage Torque & Yield Verification

Pneumatic impact guns destroy heavy-duty wheel flanges and warp inner steel wheels. We wire-brush axle threads, hand-thread all flanged nuts, and use freshly calibrated digital torque wrenches to execute star-pattern sequencing — torquing to exact factory spec (165 ft-lb for Ford M14x1.5 studs) across three distinct stages to ensure the inner steel wheel seats perfectly flat against the hub face.

Pro Tip from the Shop

When mating a forged aluminum outer wheel to a high-carbon steel inner wheel, the differing thermal expansion coefficients of the two metals under heavy towing braking cycles require two-piece swiveling flange nuts. The free-spinning flange prevents rotational gouging of the softer aluminum surface during tightening, while allowing the nut body to maintain independent tension — eliminating wheel-off risks caused by dissimilar thermal expansion rates.

The Process

01

Axle Preparation & Flange Blueprinting

Chassis secured on our 15,000-lb BendPak lift. Existing dual assemblies pulled, rear hub collars and axle flanges stripped to bare metal with high-speed wire wheels and 3M Roloc discs. Complete removal of surface rust and scale ensures the inner wheel seats 100% flush against the axle flange without radial runout.

02

Adapter Mounting & Inner Assembly

For 10-lug or spaced setups, CNC-machined 1045 steel adapters are seated onto the hub snout and torqued to OEM yield spec. Inner steel wheel mounted. High-pressure valve stem clocked 180° from the outer wheel's planned valve location for accessible inflation.

03

Touchless Outer Wheel Mounting & Spacing

Heavy-ply commercial tires mounted on a Corghi Artiglio touchless changer to protect the machined lips of forged 6061-T6 outers. Digital caliper measurements verify the dual spacing gap safely exceeds our strict 1.5" minimum clearance spec for under-load sidewall expansion.

04

Phased Torque & Load Deflection Test

Multi-stage torque sequence on outer flanged nuts. Truck lowered to place full static weight onto the shop floor. All torque specs re-verified under load, final 360° inspection of tire-to-fender and inner-to-outer sidewall clearances, and all hardware marked with a torque stripe for visual inspection.

Avoid These Pitfalls

Where Cheaper Methods Fail

We see these failures on dually trucks from shops that cut costs on hardware and skip the engineering.

Cast Adapters Shearing Under Gooseneck Towing

Shops install cheap gravity-cast aluminum 8-to-10 lug adapters to save upfront costs. Under gooseneck tongue weight and vertical payload, porous cast blocks lack tensile strength to resist lateral deflection — they shear off the hub completely, causing immediate dual assembly separation at highway speeds. We only use solid CNC-machined 1045 steel adapters.

Failing to Calculate Dual Tire Spacing

Mounting oversized 12.5"-wide mud tires on factory wheels without accounting for section width expansion under payload eliminates the critical air gap. Under towing load, inner and outer sidewalls rub together — the constant friction melts the tire carcasses from the inside, leading to catastrophic sidewall blowouts. We physically measure the gap with digital calipers under simulated load.

Impact Gun Over-Torque on Inner Steel Wheels

Over-torquing the inner steel wheel with a 1" pneumatic impact gun before mating the outer aluminum — skipping progressive star pattern — permanently warps the high-carbon steel barrel. The microscopic gap between mating faces introduces violent harmonic shimmy at 65 mph and fatigues heavy-duty studs until they snap under braking. We hand-thread and torque in staged star patterns.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

A direct bolt-on upgrade replaces your factory steel wheels with forged aluminum outer wheels that match your existing 8-lug bolt pattern — no adapters needed. A 10-lug semi-wheel conversion uses CNC-machined 1045 steel hub-centric adapters to mount commercial 22.5" or 24.5" semi-truck wheels onto your 8-lug hubs. The direct bolt-on is simpler and lighter; the 10-lug conversion gives you access to commercial-grade wheel sizes and a more aggressive look.

Gravity-cast aluminum is porous and lacks the tensile strength to handle the shear forces of gooseneck towing. Under thousands of pounds of tongue weight combined with lateral forces from highway lane changes and DFW wind gusts, cast adapters can shear off the hub entirely. We only use solid CNC-machined 1045 high-carbon steel adapters — they deform under extreme stress rather than fracturing catastrophically.

Industry minimum is roughly 0.5"–1" under full load, but we target a strict 1.5" minimum clearance to account for sidewall expansion under maximum GVWR payload, heat expansion in Texas summers, and debris that can wedge between the tires. We measure the gap with digital calipers after mounting and verify it again under the truck's static loaded weight.

Commercial 22.5" and 24.5" tire assemblies can weigh 150+ lbs — standard spin balancers struggle with accuracy at that weight. Ceramic beads distribute themselves dynamically inside the tire using centrifugal force, continuously self-balancing as the tire wears and road conditions change. For highway towing at sustained speeds, they provide consistent balance for the life of the tire.

When a forged aluminum outer contacts a high-carbon steel inner in the presence of moisture (rain, humidity, road splash), the aluminum corrodes sacrificially to the steel. Over time the wheels fuse together, making removal extremely difficult and compromising the mating surface. We strip both surfaces to bare metal and apply copper anti-seize on the mating faces only — never on threads — to prevent this molecular fusion.

We torque to exact factory specifications for your platform — for example, 165 ft-lb for Ford Super Duty M14x1.5 studs, 180 ft-lb for RAM DRW setups. All fasteners are hand-threaded first, then torqued in a star pattern across three progressive stages using a calibrated digital torque wrench. We re-torque at 100 miles and again at 500 miles per Ford's DRW service requirement.
